HP-9000-A180c

Does the A180c accept 110v power? I have it connected to 110v and all it does it make a clicking sound when I switch it on. Any ideas?

Thanks

hi,

yes it should do, not sure if its a voltage switchable PSU or if it has a switch on the back to set it to the required voltage.

Re: HP-9000-A180c

Given that "reduced cost" was one of the main mantras of the A180c it would not surprise me in the least if it had a power supply which needed to be explicitly switched between voltages.

Even in this day and age, one should _never_ assume an autoranging power supply - "always" check first *before* plugging-in a device.

I took a look at the back of the system today and there is no switch to change the voltage. Maybe the next thing to try is to connect it to a 240v source.

Re: HP-9000-A180c

Do not just blindly plug something into 220v until you _know_ it can handle 220v. Same thing for 110v.

Sure, if you want to totally FRY it.

Do NOT take the chance until you know FOR SURE what it requires or can handle.

Re: HP-9000-A180c

A little searching on http://docs.hp.com would have yielded the answer fairly quickly.

Documentation for the A-180 server is here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html#A-Class%20Server

HTML User manual for A180C -

PDF User manual for A180C -
http://docs.hp.com/en/Z4045-90002/Z4045-90002.pdf

Section talking about input power requirements is here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/Z4045-90002/ch02s02.html#cdedbjae

In a nutshell:
Nominal Input Voltage (VAC): 100 - 240

Re: HP-9000-A180c

It says that it can support 100 - 240 volts on the power supply.

Re: HP-9000-A180c

That it did not then work when connected to 110v power suggests the system is doubleplusunwell.

What do you mean by doubleplusunwell?
