Re: HP RP7420 DVD NOT WORKING
Please post ioscan output from any working systems in the npar.
vparstatus -A
Please post sea output from the console IPL prompt. This may be useful in identifying the path of the DVD.
# Will if systems are actually built show which system owns the DVD.
It is possible, if you are willing to bounce the vpar that owns the DVD drive to transfer it from system to system. Of course this would disrupt whatever is running on the system.
There are other options.
You can take the DVD to a working system with some space, mount it and use swcopy on an Ignite server to build a network bootable installation image.
You can then from the IPL interface do a network Ignite boot to complete the installation without a DVD drive.
If all else fails, you may have either bad media (try another DVD) or a bad DVD (call hardware support).

Re: HP RP7420 DVD NOT WORKING
That clarifies things.
You can still get on console and boot the system, followed by manual intervention.
At the IPL prompt:
sea
Post the output.
You will probably find the "standard" dvd path you are using is not there.
You say the power cables are hooked up. Is there a power light light? Does it spin, eject/accept DVD?
Try booting one of the paths in sea you think is disk. It might be the DVD.
Or as I suggested, put the DVD in any working HP-UX server, and use swcopy to build a network boot image.
If you choose to take this path, this guide will help you.

Warning: This doc could disappear due to HP's documentation migration project. Recommend you save a local copy.
This could simply be a hardware failure. It does from time to time happen.

Re: HP RP7420 DVD NOT WORKING
make sure the primary cell board is installed in slot 1 and the core io cards and mp cards are in the correct slots - primary.
the dvd/removable media bay is only seen on the primary side, with the lan scsi card in slot 8 and the mp in slot 1
