HP RP74XX Firmware Update

Here's what I did I ran it matched the PA, which updated and matched the PDHC, which did not update. At this point I ran a RR, BIB and then powered it off. Now my cell board only shows 0's. There where 2 cell boards in the RP7420 but only 1 was in the partition.

I would like to know if someone can tell me the correct way to update the cellboard firmware using the DFW command.

Thanks

Re: HP RP74XX Firmware Update

You must always follow the instructions step by step during the update, otherwise you can seriously damage the machine.

Regarding DFW:

So you need to specify the target first, then the source! Cell0 has an old firmware in this example, updated with the firmware of cell1.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP RP74XX Firmware Update

Thanks for the reply. The Pri PA updated with no issue, it is just the PDHC that had the issue. So to clearify I need to run the RR first, dfw ( match up FW ver Pri PA & PDHC ) then power cycle. Correct?

Re: HP RP74XX Firmware Update

Please post the table that appears when you run "dfw"!

Hope this helps!

Re: HP RP74XX Firmware Update

Unfortunately I don't have post table from the dfw. I found another cell board that I had that happened to have the same PDHC so i just used it and updated the Pri PA to match.

Re: HP RP74XX Firmware Update

As reference the following are typical steps when using DFW on the sx1000 mid-range servers:

 - Determine if you need to udpate PDHC FPGA using OSP (if so, do this first with 48V DC power on and cells at BIB).

 - Power off 48V DC power with the PE (cabinet) command.

 - Use DFW to copy and update the PDHC firmware components.

 - Next use DFW to copy and update the SFW components

 - Power on 48V DC power adn then confirm with SYSREV (note if FPGA components were updated, AC power will need to be cycled first).

Note that the system will use the latest compatible version of firmware present on the cell board (there are two images on each cell).  So, if you are down-reving a board, down-rev both images.

As mentioned though, read and understand the directions for the release you are applying.  Failure to power off the cells after applying FPGA PHDC firmware before applying SFW/PDHC firmware will result in a dead board!
