HP-UX / serial number

Is there a way to set/get the serial number of a workstation or server under HP-UX 10.20/11.xx .

This has been discussed before, but unless you physically read it yourself off the machine, i think the answer is No

Re: HP-UX / serial number

No not to my knowledge - the closest you can get to a serialno. is 'uname -i' which gives you the machine identification (but not the serial no.) HP might have a database of with id/serialno. but I have never heard of it.

You can see the serial number online for L, N and V class only at this stage. Use Ignites print_manifest command to do this. Search the forum for how to do it on a V class.

Re: HP-UX / serial number

The answer is no, there is no way to programatically get the serial number of a system.

Re: HP-UX / serial number

Hi:

To my knowledge, the actual serial number is only present in the Ignite manifest if the ignitor posted it in "/var/opt/ignite/local/manifest/manifest.seed". You can add this information after-the-fact, so that subsequent Ignite make_recovery runs document the serial number. Add a line to the seed file like: "SERIAL ".

Re: HP-UX / serial number

The answer is yes if you are on a L, N or
A class system. You can access it by STM
or printmanifest as previously mentioned.
It definately shows the S/N's.

Under "stm" you will find it under "system"
information.
