i have a query with respect to processor upgrade in rp5405 server ( product No: A7117A). As per the HP rp5405 datasheet this server is 2-way. but i believe these servers have 4 slots.
Is there anyway to convert to 4-way server like by upgrading the firmware or any upgrade firmware.
i would appreciate if some one could help me in this regard.
thanks in advance,
regds,
nishith.

SolutionA problem you will face is that the rp5470's CPUs are no longer in production, and so you will need to get re-conditioned ones. This is not always as easy as it may seem. Secondly, the rp5470 will only be supported for the next couple of years (2008 I believe is end of support, but not 100% sure about this).
As to wheter the rp5405 can be upgraded, you really need to speak to HP.

Tim

Re: HP rp5405 2-way to 4-way upgrade
An upgrade was available to upgrade the server.
This was essentially a codeword that was installed in hidden menu's at pdc, thus enabling the 4 cpu slots. Also it made the pci slots that are unavailable usable as you are upgrading the system to an RP5470.
Also HP would change the model string accordingly.
