Help!

I'm so new to Hp products, I don't know where to begin. I am responsible to test and audit EOL HP products. I found the ODE but what is the best way to guarantee the unit is fully functional? Any suggestions would be helpful, as HP doesn't provide much help for EOL products.

Re: Help!

I assume by EOL you mean "End of Life"?

What type of products are you testing and auditing? ODE seems to indicate some sort of HP-UX type product.

More details are needed. What are you trying to accomplish?

Re: Help!

I'm trying to test 9000 series. i.e. rp5470, rp7420 and so on. ODE is the Offline Diagnostic Environment. Do Ineed to load HP-UX to fully test the functionality of these units?

Re: Help!

Hi Robert,

it depends on what you want to do.

By booting the offline diags CD and run ODE-> mapper2 you will see similar results to hp-ux ioscan.

If you want to test more (what?) you may consider to install hp-ux.

BTW, if the server past the POST, you can assume the hardware is basically functional.

Example for mapper on a rp5470:

MAPPER2> run

Re: Help!

I basically want to verify that all of the components in the servers are functional. Are there tests for the memory and processors? Some sort of exerciser?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I have an rp5470 that has the red LED on and the Attention and Run lights are flashing. These come on almost immediately after powering on. The units were received without any hard drives can that cause the Fault?

Re: Help!

Hmmm, you may just want to learn to talk to Management Mrocessor (MP) or Guardian Support Processor (GSP) depending on the box.
You can clear that red light by using the MP to read the LOGs and clear the led ("SL")
The MP can possibly also give you all the configuration info you need.

Google is your friend!

Re: Help!

"The units were received without any hard drives can that cause the Fault?"

Most likely.

Run is blinking until hp-ux is booted.
Removing the power cords may cause attention to blink.
A failed boot attempt (no disks!) will cause the red fault light.

Check the GSP logs - reading them will toggle the attention and fault lights off.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
