How to find server spec?

We have an unused HP Unix server (about 5 years old) which we may be able to sell off to a broker. However, I have no supporting documentation and no knowledge of Unix to check out the system specification. Can anybody help me?

Starting up the beast and performing an ioscan will tell you most of what you need to know. The broker should know what all the model nembers translate to.

Carolin,
is there a name-tag on the system? or can you find a number like: AxxxxA?

Re: How to find server spec?

I checked for the tag:

Product No. A2938AW

It's an E35 9000 server. Is this of any use to you?

Many thanks for all of your speedy responses.

Re: How to find server spec?

Carolin,
This was all we needed...
The E35 has one PA7100LC CPU (PCX-L) running with 64MHz. It supports up to 512MB main memory and requires min hp-ux 9.04.
What else do you need?

Re: How to find server spec?

With the part number/model number you can go to the HP partssurfer site and look up any information you want to know about what goes into it and it is pretty handy when doing upgrades on old beasties like that.

the site "ain't" perfect, but it is a big help.

Re: How to find server spec?

Start here: http://www.unixservers.hp.com/

Current server models are listed here.
Once you pick the class, a new page will load. To the left there is a "product information" section which will have an overview, specifications, etc.

Re: How to find server spec?

Patrick,

with the model number, is it possible to find out what the normal spec would have been. E.g. you say it supports up to 512Mb RAM, but I don't know what it currently has.

Thanks,
Carolin

Re: How to find server spec?

Carolin,
Unfortunately not. The min. memory configuration was 16MB but you were able to order the box with any configuration you like. There are just 3 ways to find out how much memory the system actually has:
Boot hp-ux and use online tools
Boot ODE from CD
Physically inspect the CPU board and find the memory DIMMs

There is no way to find it by the product number.

Re: How to find server spec?

Could you tell me whereabouts in online tools we can find the RAM info?

Many thanks,
