L1000 shuts down both fans go yellow :( Help...

Hi all

Hopefully a veteran of the 9000 can chime in.

I have a L1000...

Recently, I walked in the server room and found someone had turned off the airconditioning... (yeah don't go there already had that conversation.. he he)

Anyway, my L1000 was down and I had a yellow light on the front cabinet fan

No problem, I have had those before.

Ordered 2 more fans (for front back)

Powered on the box, it stayed on about 5-10 minutes and then powers down on its own

BOTH fans go yellow.

It sometimes stays on long enough to get past the kernel (alloc) part of the boot so I am hoping my data is fine..

I have never had it stay on now up to a login

All the GSP says is "Cabinet" fan error that's it

Any suggestions? I found this old post

Has anyone had this power down experience?

Any help, or moral support is greatly appreciated..

What does the PS command show?

GSP> ps

PS

Power Monitor Status:
Firmware Revision : A
System Power state: On Power Switch : On
Temperature : Normal Selected fan state: Normal

Power supplies | Fan
# State Type | States
-----------------------------------------------------------
0 Normal Type 0 | Normal
1 Normal Type 0 | Normal
2 Not Installed - | Normal
3 - - | Normal
4 - - | Normal
5 - - | Normal
6 - - | Normal
7 - - | Normal

Any related messages in GSP log?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

One of the fan states for the PS does show failed, though all three lights on the PS are on and the fans are moving.

Again, the power off is strange as I can break the boot sequence let the system just stand there, and bam it shutsdown and BOTH back and front cabinet lights go yellow at the same time...

If a fan has failed and the system is overheating then it will shut down automatically.

Re: L1000 shuts down both fans go yellow :( Help...

Even if a fan is too slow it is failed from the server point of view. Fans are N+1, 2 failed fans cause a power off. If power is off, fan LEDs are yellow.

Inspect the GSP logs what is going on!

Hope this helps!

Fan still both go yellow.. I am thinking a control board issue still it sometimes can boot and does the root scan and says "Clean" but will still power down at random times...

Scan or post the GSP SL -> E logs for power or environment issues.

Could be platform monitor or loose cable but you might want to swap power supplies if the fans haven't resolved anything to see if it stays up.

What product model revision (A or B? -> ) is this and firmware (PDC) version are you running? Earlier versions of firmware had overtemp warning failures:

Re: L1000 shuts down both fans go yellow :( Help...

There is always a possibility that the temperature rise was very fast and even though the server shut off power when the temperature sensors hit their limit, some damage to the hardware has already occurred. Perhaps the sensors or the detection circuitry has been damaged and it is sensing overtemp or some other power problem.

Have you looked at the GSP logs (SL command)?
