N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

We got a couple of used HP9000 servers. They have been delivered as a big puzzle... CPUs, Boards, Boxes, and also some parts missing. My job is it to assemble these machines and to make them run.
The problem ist that I'm a bit confused what parts go into which system. For example what Proc. Support Module belongs to which CPU... That kind of information is hard to find.

Does someone have a document with this kind of information???
Maybe a list with part numbers for the individual machines?

http://partsurfer.hp.com

Search by model number and then get a parts listing "for all parts". Note that some parts may have multiple valid part numbers.

Or search by part number and see the list of models that part fits to.

You will also need the hardware manuals for your server models. For L-class, the Installation Guide is probably the best.

http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html

Also be aware that these servers were renamed for marketing reasons in the middle of their product life:

L1000 = rp5400
L2000 = rp5450
L3000 -> rp5470 (rp5470 can run faster CPUs)

N4000 = rp7400

Re: N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

Thanks, this is a good start.

But I need more detailed information, for example the DIPswitch settings for processor speed.
The manuals available in public space always refer to a working system and the installation procedure for the customer. I need more tecnical docs.

Re: N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

DIP switch settings depend on the system board revision and of course the CPU type.

There are a lot of threads here on ITRC about this:

Hope this helps!

Re: N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

Thanks Torsten for this non-answer.

Normally I'm asking such silly questions because I have already spent hours with searching, hoping someone knows the answer and is willing to share it with me. I know how the searcher is working...

Re: N-Class L-Class hardware configuration?

Sorry, but there are a lot of different combinations.

If you can tell what you have (e.g. L2000 with 440MHz CPU or something) it would be much easier.

Maybe this helps:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=64311

It's not easy to answer this question, because it is too much general.

A more specific question is much easier to answer.

Regarding the processor support modules in a L-class:

right (front view) is PSM 0, needed for CPU 0 and 3, left PSM is needed for a 3 or 4 CPU configuration. Just in case of L1000 and L2000 with only 1 CPU you need PSM 0 + (!!!) a CPU slot terminator.

HTH

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
