OLAR cards offline

We had to replace a card on one of our Super Domes and used OLAR to add replace it. The Super Dome has one Npar with five Vpars. Following the replacement some other cards were offline as well as the one replaced. It seems as if OLAR brought down more then the one card. Cards assigned to other Vpars were found offline. The OLAR commands were done via smh and the logs show only bringing down the one card, but powering back on several cards. Has anyone run into something similar?

Sounds strange, did you by chance power off a complete I/O chassis or something? Or did you touch the "doorbell" buttons of other slots?

The system is model SD32 with one Npar with five Vpars. They share the same card cage but the cards are allocated out to separate vpars.

This system is remote. HP field engineer did all the physical work. I did the work from a terminal and console.

Torsten, can you tell me more about the "doorbell" buttons? I have not heard of that.

Each slot has such a button. If you press it, the system prepares for hotswap - alert the OS, unbind the driver, power off the slot etc ...

Is there a log somewhere that shows if the "doorbell" switch was pushed? I've reviewed the sam.log and there's no record of an OLAR command to offline anything. I see some entires in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log, but they don't show the source of the offline events.

The man page says

An audit trail is logged onto NetTL log file whenever an OLA/OLR/OLD operation is initiated (see nettl(1M)). This information is also written to standard output.

e.g. /var/adm/nettl.LOG000

Sometimes not that abnormal. I presume you might be using 11.11 which does not have a CRA.
Powering off a slot not only powers off that slot but also powers off slots in it's "power domain" and on a 11.31 you have a utility called as CRA which tells you about the impacts of the other slots that are being powered off.

These servers are HP-UX 11.31. I don't find the command CRA or cra with root's current path. Can you tell me the pathc to this tool? I don't find it under /opt or /usr.

CRA stands for "Critical Resource Analysis", it is a feature of the olrad tool.

"olrad performs Critical Resource Analysis (CRA) of the system before performing any OLA/R/D operation.
This is to ensure that the system is not left in an inconsistent state after a PCI card is
added/replaced/deleted."
