Re: Processor install in rp8440 server

hi

the basic things for consideration shall be like this

1)know the NPAR which u have to replace the proc.

2)also know processor belongs to which cell of the NPAR .

3)if this NPAR has VPARs also in there shutdown the applications and shutdown OS of each VPAR using shutdown -hy 00

then the NPAR shall come to a MON> prompt

do a CTRL+B to go the GSP >
give a PE Command and choose the NPAR to power off the NPAR.

3) is only to be considered if u have VPARs on the NPAR.

4)if there are no VAPRs on the NPAR, then close the applications on the NAPR and shutdown the OS for the same using the
#shutdown -hy 00 command.
do a CTRL+B to go the GSP >
give a PE Command and choose the NPAR to power off the NPAR.

5)remove the cell board with the Defective processor.

6)replace the defective processor taking necessary ESD precautions.

7)put the cell board back in the slot from where u had taken that out.

8)go to the GSP console , CM>PE , power on the NPAR.

make sure that the processor is the same as that other processors on the cell board.

Re: Processor install in rp8440 server

"That means how to loos the screws , is it diagonal or straight ."

The screws are AFAIR numbered, just use the reverse order, e.g. 6,5,4,3,2,1 and unlock the socket with this special tool before you lift the module.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Processor install in rp8440 server

Hello Taifur,

the basic idea for the screws is correctly to follow the serial nos of the screws,

but better that u unscrew or screw that is loosen / tighten the screws a bit all of them simultaneously that getting the processor module titlted or skewed is avoided.
