Processor problem

Hi,

Our engineer upgraded a 2 dual core rp4440 to 4 dual core rp4440. But after adding the cpus none of the cpus are getting detected in the pdc. What could be the problem. the processor part number is A7135A ( pa880 1ghz processor).

Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance

Re: Processor problem

If you bounce the box and go to the BCH, what does "in pr" return? Do you see 4 cores there?

Also check the model string. If it's rp4410, then could be someone missed "upgrade". I've seen it once before where we had the front bezel replaced but someone got busy and forgot to run upgrade cmd... so cpu wasn't activated for a month or more before it was caught. (doh!):)

Have a look at upgrade manual if you haven't seen it already. Also check your f/w revs.

Hope this helps,

Re: Processor problem

Hi,

many thanks for ur reply.
The model strings returns rp440.
The fw version is 44.11
the MP>ss command shows only 2 processor activated. Rest 2 are not getting detected. No errors are shown in the VFP.
System is not booting even after a long period..

If I remove the processor 2 & 3 then the system boots up. I am able to use only processor 0 & 1.

Any hints are welcome.

Re: Processor problem

Hi Syam,

are you sure about your version 44.11 or is this a typo?

The current version is PDC45.44/BMC03.52/MPE.03.15 (compare this with "sysrev" output from the MP).
You can find the patch in itrc (11.11 PHSS_33892). Make sure to read and follow the instructions carefully.

Be aware you cannot mix different CPU types.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Processor problem

I would suggest you will check MP FPL to see if the firmware detects all 4 CPU modules. Here is its example. In this case, CPU module 0, 1, 2 and 3 were detected.

335644 SFW 0 0 0x160002C500E00000 0000000000000000 BOOT_REBOOT
335645 SFW 1 0 0x1600001D01E00000 001F010500000001 BOOT_CPU_CONFIG
335646 SFW 2 0 0x1600001D02E00000 001F010500000002 BOOT_CPU_CONFIG
335647 SFW 3 0 0x1600001D03E00000 001F010500000003 BOOT_CPU_CONFIG
335648 SFW 0 0 0x1600001D00E00000 001F010500000000 BOOT_CPU_CONFIG
335649 SFW 1 0 0x1600000E01E00000 00000000000F2000 BOOT_CELL_MONARCH_SEL_START
335650 SFW 2 0 0x1600000E02E00000 00000000000F2000 BOOT_CELL_MONARCH_SEL_START
335651 SFW 3 0 0x1600000E03E00000 00000000000F2000 BOOT_CELL_MONARCH_SEL_START
335652 SFW 0 0 0x1600000E00E00000 00000000000F2000 BOOT_CELL_MONARCH_SEL_START
335653 SFW 0 1 0x3600000C00E00000 0000000000000000 BOOT_CELL_MONARCH
335654 SFW 0 1 0x3600026100E00000 0000000000000000 BOOT_CPU_PRESENT
335655 SFW 1 1 0x3600026101E00000 0000000000000001 BOOT_CPU_PRESENT
335656 SFW 2 1 0x3600026102E00000 0000000000000002 BOOT_CPU_PRESENT
335657 SFW 3 1 0x3600026103E00000 0000000000000003 BOOT_CPU_PRESENT

If you cannot see CPU 2 and 3, it would be some processor board problem. Or its board may have some configuration switch problem on the board.

Re: Processor problem

Found a thread discussing the A7135A and the result indicated some special install from an HP CE.

Re: Processor problem

I am not sure why Syam has not responded to our suggestion. I noticed one identical issue.

E.02.29:
Fixed issues:
- MP did not show proper number of
processors on rp3410, rp3440 and rp4440
systems in previous revisions of
Management Processor firmware.

I do not know if he checked the processor information from BCH. Anyway, if the MP firmware revision is not E.02.29 or later, updating the MP firmware can prevent this old known issue.

Re: Processor problem

Hi All,

Thanks for all your inputs..The problem is resolved after locking the cpu properly.

Thank you all
