Trying to reset MP Admin a/c - doesnt seem to be doing anything

Hi All,
We are trying to reset the Admin password on the MP on an rp4410 hp/ux 11.11 system , and have tried the following as per instructions but nothing seems to happen , are we doing it right ?

With console connected, the display is showing " MP Login" . I press MP Reset and hold for 5 sec. blue light flashed around reset button.
Console still remains at "MP Login" I reply with Admin/Admin and no response just offers MP Login again.

Sounds like you pressed the locator button only.

The MP reset (directly on the system board) is on the rear, bottom left behind the chassis (you can see and press it from outside) next to the chassis screw.

Hi Torsten,
thanks for the info , just tried it again (on a test system) first. Is that button (ie number 5 on the document you kindly sent on)white ? I reset it , and an orange light came on , and nothing else. Again a stupid question , can I presume the system doesnt need to be down to actually do this reset ?

You can reset the MP while the system is running.



AFAIR a message will come up at the console asking you if you want to reset the values, but I'm not sure.

Hi again Torsten. This is really baffling us now. Two of us looked at server and we can only see 1 button (white one) which is where you described (it is behind a metal grid) so we had to use a small pin to push in. This resulted in orange light now on) and no joy from the colsole at all. We are now wondering do we have to actually open up the server in order to see the MP reset button , as the one I described above does not seem to be it (it seems from the document that this could be button 6 - MP self-test LED , and not button 5 - MP soft reset button.

Cant believe this is such an awkward thing to do such a simple task lol

It's some years ago that I pressed this button ... :-)

Well, there is the reset button and next to it the red selftest LED (on for a few seconds while MP is booting).

IIRC a short press (~3sec) will reboot the MP, longer press (~10sec) will reset the values and reboot the MP.

Hey Torsten , again thanks for that. This is where we are now. After last update , orange light was permanantly on , but nothing on screen, so I decided to reboot. This didnt clear orange light , so powered off. That still didnt clear orange light so pulled plugs out of back and reseated them. [Powered up server and up on the screen was 'Press P to reset passwords' , followed by the MP login. So I booted up server and tried again. I pushed in the mp reset button for circa 12 secs , and same again , oragne light , and nothing on console. (This is just a test box , but Im worried that I have this trouble when we go to do this on the live) Am I still doing something silly wrong here does it sound ?
