adding memory in rp3440

Hello.

We need to add some memory in our rp3440. Now this one have 8GB of memory, in 2 banks of 4GB each one.
We want if it's possible to plugin a new bank of 8GB in then free slot.

Thanks for your help.

Re: adding memory in rp3440

Hi Carlos,

As i understood you have 2x 4GB DIMMs on the board now and you want to add 2x 4GB DIMMs.

If you plan to use 4GB DIMMs, 4X 4 GB configuration is not supported.

Take a look at memory loading rules of rp3440..

Re: adding memory in rp3440

First of all it is not possible to add odd numbers of memory. You have 2x 4GB DIMMs now. According to your configuration you cannot add 1x8GB DIMM and also 2X 8GB DIMM is not supported too, because the highest amount of memory supported is 32 GB and you have to use 8x 4GB DIMMs, next highest amount of memory supported is 24 GB and must be 12x 2GB DIMMs.Another thing 4x 4GB DIMMs is not supported.
So it seems that you will not use that your 8GB mem. You may add 2x 2 Gb DIMMs if you find and also notice you should load the pairs in specific order labeled near the slots like 0a,0b,1a,1b..

Burak

Re: adding memory in rp3440

hi,

it would be clearer to see how your memory is made up? can post the output from the info tool in STM?

this will tell us what slots are free and what are occupied.

the memory in the server you have is installed in QUADS (4x2gb dimms) possibly? is this what you currently have? or do you have 2 lots of 4gb kits(4x1gb dimms) per kit/module?

depending upon what you have depends upon what you can have. but the details are all in the link provided above

Re: adding memory in rp3440

Hello. This is the output of stm:

Memory Board Inventory

DIMM Slot Size (MB)
--------- ---------
0A 1024
0B 1024
1A 1024
1B 1024
2A 1024
2B 1024
3A 1024
3B 1024
--------- ---------
System Total (MB): 8192

I think ther is one free slot. Anyway, is it possible to add another exactly same module of 4GB? Another quad of 4 x 1GB???

Thanks for all.

Re: adding memory in rp3440

for the output of stm , I see that i have 2 quads of 1GB (1GB dimm modules), not 2GB dimm modules. Sorry and thanks again

Re: adding memory in rp3440

rp3440 has 12 memory slots, i think your stm output is like below;

DIMM Slot Size (MB)
--------- ---------
0A 1024
0B 1024
1A 1024
1B 1024
2A 1024
2B 1024
3A 1024
3B 1024
4A 0
4B 0
5A 0
5B 0
--------- ---------
System Total (MB): 8192

it means you can attach 4x 1GB memory to the free slots.
