connect hp server rp 7420 to UPS

i have hp server rp7420 hp-ux 11iv1 i want to connect this server to ups so when the electricity down the server shutdown before the Batteries of the ups get empty .
what i need to do that? (software + hardware )

You must find a UPS that is supported with HP-UX. The majority of UPS manufacturers only provide support for Windows. HP makes several compatible UP models shown in the previous reference. Other manufacturer's models may work if they provide supporting software.

i have download the UPS software for Unix now i need to connect the UPS through RS-232 cables to the server but i can't find ports in the server

hi,

you connect the ups to one of the serial ports on the MP M shaped cable 25pin-3x9pin connections.

one is local console
one is remote console
one is for UPS

once connected you should be able to see it in hpux.

If its easier you can configure the UPS through SAM

All depends on the UPS model - specific UPS needs specific software.

I would be verify that the UPS is supported on HP-UX and that the software will run on HP-UX. If you use a non-HP brand for your UPS, it is very likely not going to work and the batteries will just run down. There are no standards for UPS communication and many UPS manufacturers only make software for Windows.
