Recently I have upgrade our system (rp7420) one of Cell Board, existing Cell Board 1 & new Cell Board 0 (8 core processor & 16GB memory).

After add on new Cell Board then I have boot the system that time I did not get any new processor & memory.

Here is some out put:

Hi,
I don't know how, but I'm sure you must declare processors and memory components before boot Unix system. You have hardware menu specialy for this

The line below should give you an indication.

cab0,cell0 Inactive 8/0/8 16.0/0.0 cab0,bay0,chassis0 no - -

cell0 is inactive.

Somewhere in the npar ( assuming only 1 npar ) this entire cell needs to be activated. If HP did the install they should have done this !! If you did the install then you may wish to just review the rp7420 HW users guide to see how to activate new HW.

Try this doc CH7. Enabling and disabling Cells.

I think you can use the partion manager to add the new cell to your partition or to use the parmodify command.

Re: Add Cell on the Partition (rp7420/HP-UX 11.23)

hi yakub,

do u have sveral Vpars running on this rp system ?

the cell as the parstatus O/P shows seems that has not be added to the cell.

U shall need to do a parmodify to add that cell and that shall be requiring a reboot of the NPAR to configure the newly added cell to that NPAR. But if that has been added in the system , rightly said that would have been added to the NPAR and configured by HP Personnel. Or does the customer want to activate that later on?

I would suggest that u better take the help of the HP Authorised person as there ar elot many things that u have look into while adding a cell to an NPAR, there are compatibility issues , Firmware issues and all that always need to be looked into nad clarity should be there that customer wishes to make that cell active right away or he has plans of doing that later on.

Re: Add Cell on the Partition (rp7420/HP-UX 11.23)

Hi Yakub,

it shall be highly appreciated and the things shall be more clear if u can gibe the O/Ps of the following commands:

#parstatus -V -p 0
#parstatus -C 0/0
#parstatus -C 0/1

how long back was this cell board added and if possible the files. What i mean to know is that has this been like this from the time the cell had been added?

that is might be it was just put in and not configured in the cell?

also what is amazing is that cell 1 is active and that cell 0 is inactive.

any thoughts freinds?????
