Firmware checking

I had below model hpunix server
9000/800/N4000-55
9000/800/N4000-75
9000/800/L3000-7x
9000/800/L2000-5X
9000/800/L1000-44
9000/800/R390
9000/861/D270
9000/800/L2000-36

I need to upgrade the firmware levels on them.
May I know where I can downloade latest version.
What situations we need to upgraade the version ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Firmware checking

Arumugavel's document is applicable to Proliant servers, not for PA-RISC HP-UX servers.

9000/800/R390 and 9000/861/D270 are already out of normal support, and their firmware patches are no longer downloadable.

For L and N-class servers you should know that their model names changed in mid-production. The new names might be more useful in searching for updates:

9000/800/N4000-55 = rp7400
9000/800/N4000-75 = rp7400
9000/800/L3000-7x = rp5470
9000/800/L2000-5X = rp5450
9000/800/L2000-36 = rp5450
9000/800/L1000-44 = rp5400

(In old-style L and N class model numbers, the -xx suffix indicates CPU speed: "-44" means 440 MHz etc.)

You may find firmware updates at:
http://www.hp.com/go/support

Select "Drivers & Software", type in search string like "L1000", "rp5450" or "rp5470" and click on "Search".

Examples:

- if you are experiencing a problem and have reason to believe that it might be firmware-related

- if you know that the current version has important issues (e.g. you have read the Release Notes of the newer version) and decide you wish to proactively update before actual problems happen

- you're updating the OS version, and the newer version requires a certain firmware level

- you're configuring the system to boot from SAN, and the firmware level update is a requirement for SAN boot compatibility

- you're adding some new hardware which requires a certain minimum firmware level
