HP9000 RP8400 BOOT_ON_FAILURE_GOT_BCH

Hi All.

I've a problem to boot a HP9000 RP8400.

It seems that the boot cell is not available due to power supply problem.

Could you please confirm me that?

Furthermore, how can i fix the problem that is affecting the system?

Re: HP9000 RP8400 BOOT_ON_FAILURE_GOT_BCH

Hi Daniele,

the partition 1 (OVOMGR2), which contains cell boards 1 and 2, does not boot because cell 1 failed with a "CPU 2.0V Rail VOLTAGE FAULT" and is powered off now, and all boot pathes are on IO locations attached to cell 1 (1/x/x/x/x.x).

The "CPU 2.0V Rail VOLTAGE FAULT" is a DC/DC (VRM) voltage issue on cell 1. That voltage rail is supported by VRMs 5-9 (VRM 4 is not used on rp8400). So you may need to exchange all those VRMs.

Note: There are 8 low voltage VRMs (0-3,5-9) on the cell. As you should not mix different VRM vendors and part numbers, you may need to order 8 new VRMs and check what you get.

Kind Regards

Holger

Hello Holger.

Many thanks for your explanation. I've one last question, do you know if HP is still selling spare parts for the customer machine?

Re: HP9000 RP8400 BOOT_ON_FAILURE_GOT_BCH

Hi Daniele,

those VRM parts are still available.
If you have no HW contract for this system, I would suggest that you contact HP support or your HP support partner to get those parts.

Kind Regards

Holger
