Can someone shed some light as to why the drives are listed as UNASSIGNED.

This is a server that was recently relocated to a new building and reracked. The raid 5 was working and had logical volumes (vg01) assigned to it. However the bdf output only shows vg00. Could it be because the scsci cables are connected to the wrong ports on the server?

Hello,

looks like the configuration has been cleared. The sautil output says that no logical drives have been found. If a physical drive is not a part of any logical drive, its status is displayed as unassigned.

Where are the disks for your vg00 coming from ? Is there any other controller in the system ?

naturally it looks cleared. that is the problem. Any idea on how it would have gotten cleared or does it only appear that way because it is in the wrong slot or something.

vg00 is coming from the internal drives on the separate internal scsi controller.

What did happen before?

The configuration is stored on controller and disks, so you normally cannot loose, if you change only 1 part of the config (controller or a disk).

raid 5 disk array cables were plugged into ports 1 and 2 on the server ... switched them to ports 3 and 4 and everything is back to normal.
