L1000 Server Replace

Hi Folks,

We are planning to replace an old L1000 server running HP-UX v11.00 and Oracle 8.

Database is going to be migrated to 9i, but we need some help with hardware choices, as the PA-RISC line was discontinued.

We've read about Integrity virtualization, but we are not sure about this technique.

Please may you shed some insight into this topic?

Thanks in advance,

A.

May you help us with

This is still an old version of the DB that will not be supported much longer. Any reason you're not looking to Oracle 10g or 11g?

If there are not many users of this DB, you might look into the rx2660. That server can have 2 x dual-core CPUs (4 cores total) and up to 32 GB RAM.

If this DB is the only thing you need to run on your new server, I wouldn't worry about virtualization.

Re: L1000 Server Replace

see if your Intel x86 people are using Blade C7000 enclosures and have a extra full slot and just add a bl860 to their enclosure. Thats a entry level blade system much more powerful than the system you have and since it is in a blade enclosure the additional cost will not be significant.
