LPMC type : D-Cache Parity Error - what is it!

I have noticed one of our servers has the following message in syslog:

LPMC type : D-Cache Parity Error.

This error is about 7 months old.

Right now its uptime is 806 days, the box is quite old (K series).

Whats that error? Should I open up a casa with HP?

Re: LPMC type : D-Cache Parity Error - what is it!

If this occurred only once, there is no need to worry.

This is a correctable bit error in the CPU cache.

Hope this helps!

LPMC - Low Priority Machine Check.

D-Cache - Data Cache - an area of cache memory used by the processor to hold memory references in attempt to mitigate the performance penalty of going out to memory each time.

Parity Error - parity is a form of checksum to verify data correctness.

Since your system didn't reboot, you can conclude that it was a "correctable" error and the processor corrected it. Likely as not, the cache line was clean in the cache (not yet modified by any software) and so it was simply read from memory again.

As already stated, no need to open a case with HP. Although, given the age of your system, you might want to consider talking with an HP sales rep about a replacement :) An rx2660 or BL860c i2 could probably replace that system quite easily - at least from a performance standpoint.
