Re: RP3440 boot error :The system contains an incompatible mix of processors

Hi,

did you mix PA8900 and PA8800 CPUs ?

Please post the output of the MP commands (in cm> mode)

sysrev
ps
ss
df -nc -all

best regards

Re: RP3440 boot error :The system contains an incompatible mix of processors

HI,
Stefan
I have not mixed PA8900 and PA8800 CPUs!

I want to test the systemboard(A7136-60101) of RP3440. but I installed the CPU(AB354A) in the systemboard (A7136-60101).And I had one CPU(AB354A) only!

I think the A7136-60101 has only support the PA8900 CPU.

Re: RP3440 boot error :The system contains an incompatible mix of processors

hi,

not much help here, but i have heard of things like this before with the RP34x0 srs machines.

with the speeds though more?

where if a system has been upgraded or had a faster cpu installed, then when you try and downgrade it again it wont work properly and you get your error. It could also be the fact that your board has had PA8900 cpu's and will not work with PA8800 ones now?

The original part number was -60001/69001 and this was replaced by the 60101/69101 board. Maybe this has something to do with it. however as it is the replacement, it should work with both PA versions and speeds

search these forums, you will find more questions similar to yours

Can you provide me the MP sysrev output? Your system firmware(PDC) version may be old. You need 45.11 or later. I actually am curious to know your PDC version.

Re: RP3440 boot error :The system contains an incompatible mix of processors

Hi,

you did NOT supply the df output.

Anyway, you wrote:
"but I installed the CPU(AB354A) in the systemboard"

AB354A is "Processor Upgrade : HP PA-RISC processor upgrade kit - Includes one 1.0GHz PA-RISC 8800 dual core processor and attached heat sink with fan"

=> you installed a PA8800 CPU. But the information on the processor does show:

HVERSION SVERSION Processor
Processor Speed Model Model/Op CVERSION State
--------- -------- -------- -------- -------- -------------
0 1000 MHz 0x0896 0x0491 3.2 Active
1 1000 MHz 0x0896 0x0491 3.2 Idle

HVersion 0x0896 means a rp3440 with PA8900 Cpus.

You installed a PA8800 CPU into a system that was upgraded to PA8900.

To fix the situation, only use other CPUs (PA8900) or another system board (that was equipped with PA8800 CPUs before).

If you got a new replacement system board from Stock, then you must set the system type with the "upgrade" command (if you have payed for an upgrade to PA8900).
See page 222 of:

http://docs.hp.com/en/A7137-96008-ed5/A7137-96008-ed5.pdf

But your systemboard is already at PA8900.

In theory you could use the "downgrade" command to downgrade to a PA8800 version, but I do not know if this works fine. And: you need the original license key to later upgrade back to PA8800 !

An HP engineer could maybe downgrade your system to PA8800 if this is really what you want, but this would have to be negociated with your local HP support.

best regards

Stefan

Re: RP3440 boot error :The system contains an incompatible mix of processors

Stefan is correct. I've not had luck in the past with the downgrade command, so I would recommend putting in a call with HP if you want to downgrade to the PA8800 rp3440.
What are the chances...
