Server system board Upgrade from K380 to K580

Hello,

We ran out of the HBA slots on the K380 server. In order to have more slots, some of the HP technicians suggested us to upgrade the system board on K380 by replacing it with K580 system board. So that we can have an additional 6 more hba slots.

Please let me know what do you think about the above scenario?

If you folks think that the correct way of doing it then please let me know the system board part number that will be replacing the existing K380 system board.

Thanks & regards,
Nikee

Re: Server system board Upgrade from K380 to K580

I think an rp5670 server would be better idea.

I know what HP suggested will problably work but:

The K boxes are very expensive to maintain on a hardware contract. In three for four years with a new rp5670 server the savings in support costs will probably pay for the server.

I know I'm a little outside the box here.

If you can't get new, I suppose the upgrade will solve the short term problem but its actually the more expensive course of action.

If you are going to upgrade to a K-580, you will find it cheaper to simply purchase a K-580 on the used equipment market. K-boxes are dirt cheap there.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
