/> mptutil /dev/mpt2 | grep "SCSI Firmware Version"
SCSI Firmware Version : 1.03.35.65 IO
SCSI Firmware Version (Hex) : 1.03.23.41 IO
we need to update to version 1.03.35.70
I have the firmware software downloaded, the problem is we have both system disks on the same scsi controller:
:/> ioscan -fnkH 0/1/1/0
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=====================================================================
ext_bus 2 0/1/1/0 mpt CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI Ultra320 A6961-60011
/dev/mpt2
target 3 0/1/1/0.0 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 1 0/1/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373454LC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
target 4 0/1/1/0.1 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 2 0/1/1/0.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373454LC
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0
target 5 0/1/1/0.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 2 0/1/1/0.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c2t7d0
I was going to use the mputil to update, but can I do it with the Fs mounted and apps running?
If not how are you supposed to do the update?
putting a san disk in the mirror and doing it from there?
Thnx for the help

There are multiple upgrade methods.
Online Firmware Update with mptutil
Copy Files To EFI Partition
HP IPF Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD

Re: Update u320(A7173A) mpt scsi controller Firmware question
The problem is I am on a pa-risc server rp4440.
That's why I was thinking of updating with the mptutil toos, but because I have both sytem disks in the same controller, I don't think I can update following this procedure with the servee running ├В┬┐?.
I don't know if I could use the ode disk procedure, because I don't have were to save the firmware, unlike IA servers with efi filesystems.

Re: Update u320(A7173A) mpt scsi controller Firmware question
But I doubt if you really need it!
"Fixed Issues:
- SR8606403116: If an A7173A or AB290A Ultra320 (U320) SCSI controller is used in a vPars environment, a partition reboot
may cause a load failure of the EFI driver from EEPROM."
You have no EFI, you have no vPars, IMHO you don't need it.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Update u320(A7173A) mpt scsi controller Firmware question
Even if I don't need it, A couple of questions:
Where can I see a list of fixes per Firmware vesion?, so I could see all the fixes from version .65 to version .70 .
I don't have test servers with this controller(SO Hds on it) to test the mptutil update, that's why I was wondering if someone had updated using it.
it's strange that all the info it's about IPF systems, there is nothing about PA :?
could it be posible to use the HP PA Offline Diagnostics and Utilities CD, to update ?
thanks!.

SolutionServer up-to-date = HBA up-to-date
Now on Integrities this is a bit different, because of the layout.
However, here is an older release note with fixes:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=331468&swItem=ux-38234-1&prodNameId=331470&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1
So the online method is the only one for you.
"...
Execute the online update utility - Execute mptutil to update the firmware. Type "man mptutil" for details."
I expect this will install the firmware and do a short reset - your system continues.
I did this with smartarray controllers already (much more complex controller than a normal SCSI) without problems, even with boot disks connected.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
