Re: rp5450 / won't start up

fred,

the switch doesnt have a good click it just presses in.

I would just open the box and reseat the processor support modules too. Just to be sure, as the system will just power off as yours does if they are not quite seated corrected or bad. likewise if there is no cpu's installed

see the troubleshooting and buildup procedure guide

Re: rp5450 / won't start up

Hi Fred,

The power switch is a two position switch; it doesn't have a noticeable 'click' but should stay slightly in when pressed in. If it isn't staying in then the switch is bad. If it does stay in, then check:

- Remote Power shutdown via the GSP> PC command. The PC command should reflect the current position of the Power Switch when depressed.

- The Chassis Error Logs and look closely for any messages indicating Low Voltage DC Power. A CPU Support Module could be failing.

- Two working power supplies. The LED on the each Power Supply should be lit. I believe your rp5450 only requires one working P/S to power up.

- Platform Monitor module POWER LED indicator present.

- Platform Monitor heartbeat LED indicator present.

Possible FRUs are:
CPU Support Module
Power Supply
Power Monitor module
System Module

More than likely you have a bad switch; if it isn't the switch then I hope the above will help to further isolate the issue.

Rgds,

Re: rp5450 / won't start up

If the PS command says the power switch is off, then the switch is simply off.

If the system does not power on while the switch is ON, then it must have other reasons.

Now I'm sure the switch is bad.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rp5450 / won't start up

Yes, the power switch seems to be defective. I can hold the button in with a shim and the system continues to run.

It still doesn't boot - plenty of errors during the post tests - but now that I can see those I will take it to the vendor that supplied the system.

Thanks again for your help.
