rp8400 lan consoles on dual core I/O's

Is it possible to configure and utilize multiple lan console ports with two Core I/O boards in my rp8400? I have the primary lan console port configured and working, but can only seem to locate information regarding configuring the second port on the rp8420 and other platforms. I'd like to have the second port as a redundant port on a second switch in case the primary port or switch fails.

Thanks!

For this system only the primary card is working as a MP - no way to use the secondary as a "standby".

Hope this helps!

So if I understand you then, the second port and any other lan console ports on Core I/O boards in an expansion chassis, for example, would be basically non-functional?

You are correct in this assumption. Although if you have a hardware problem, having two of these can be quite helpful. You can swap them around to see if your problem follows the card.

Hi,

I think HP-APA is your looking for redundant port.

Joelmel, APA cannot be used for LAN _console_ port.

It's fine for ordinary LAN connections, but that is not what was asked. The LAN console port is special because it's controlled by the Management Processor (also known as iLO in newer hardware), not by the operating system.
