CIFS SRV: Unknown error.

$ cifslogin servername
Remote user xxxxxx's password:
Logging in User: SRV: unknown error

Does anyone know what this error could mean and how to fix it?

I've only tested this is one other user and that user works.

Re: CIFS SRV: Unknown error.

I am not sure what you are asking but if one userid works and another doesn't work to the same server. You would have to assume that the setup is correct, since one users works, and that the problem would be with the second user's username and/or password. Remember that usernames and passwords are case sensitive.

Re: CIFS SRV: Unknown error.

Hi,

I've heard of this error happening with Win2000 serving the network shares. I believe it was related to the way user authentication was set up on the server side.

regards,

Darren.

Hello-

Hopefully, your security level is set to user...

I would use the smbpasswd command in the /opt/sambe/bin directory to reset this user's password, then retry the login.
