HP-UX 11i v2 update 2?

Hi all. I'm trying to determine exactly what this "update 2" is for 11i v2, and how to check whether or not an HP system has it installed. From what I can tell, Update 2 is another name for the Sept 2004 11i v2 patch bundle, and perhaps it is included in the Sept 2004 full release of 11i v2. I recently installed 11i v2 on an L1000 (RISC) system from Sept 2004 media, and am trying to confirm if this is an 'update 2' system or not. Here is my uname -a output:

HP-UX hpL1000a B.11.23 U 9000/800 542706557 unlimited-user license

Do I still need to download/install the Sept 04 (or later) patch bundle? And one more thing, what about the Itanium systems? I also have an Itanium system, and have the same questions about that one.

11i v2 update 2, AKA 11.23PI, AKA 11i v2 Sept 04
OE .. all points to the same release. This is a patch
bundle that supports both PA-RISC and Itanium
hardware (original 11iv2 release only supported
Itanium).

Both ("original" release and Sept 04 OE) print
B.11.23 in "uname -a" output. One way to tell them
apart is the following:

On 11.23 original release:
# swlist | grep HPUXBaseAux
HPUXBaseAux B.11.23 HP-UX Base OS Auxiliary

On Sept 04 release:
# swlist | grep HPUXBaseAux
HPUXBaseAux B.11.23.0409 HP-UX Base OS Auxiliary

My advice would be to move to Sept 04 OE if you
can as this contains all the latest patched.

Thanks for the info! Looks like my L1000 already has update 2, as I used Sept 2004 media for installation. My Itanium was pre-installed when I got it, and it looks like March 2004 media. So I just downloaded and installed the Sept 2004 11i patch bundle, but swlist still shows "HPUXBaseAux 11.23.0403" rather than 11.23.0409. "swlist -l bundle" does show the 11i bundle 11.23.0409 installed, so it looks like I'm ok, but I wanted to confirm with the forum experts!

Just to clarify, the question is: According to info above, Is my Itanium system running 11i v2 update 2?

I think it's okay (I have never updated from 0403 to
0409, only cold installed 0409). What does
"swlist -l bundle" show for HPUX11i-OE-MC or
HPUX11i-TCOE (depending on whether you have
mission critical OE of tech computing OE) ?

Anyone who updated from 0403 to 0409 care to
comment on the version of their HPUXBaseAux
bundle?

That does not look right to me. I always do coldinstall.
Is it possible for you to do a cold install? Note that
the content of the disk will be erased if you do
coldinstall, so you don't want to do that if you have
usefull data.

If the system is PA-RISC, and "11.23" then by definition it must be update 2 or later as update 2 was the first "11.23" or 11iv2 to support PA-RISC.

As far as telling the original 11.23 from the update 2 11.23 on Itanium, the listed swinstall stuff will do that, but apart from administrative interest akin to normal "which patches are installed" I don't think there is much need to differentiate - at last not for stuff like compilation and the like.

The primary concern with regard to my Itanium system is that "update 2" is installed. The reason this is important is that I am in a test lab, and the requirement for a test I am doing is "11i v2 Update 2." It would seem to be a simple question, whether or not the system is running the Update 2 or not, but unfortunately the answer is not as clear and direct as I hoped.

Is there a definitive way to say without question whether or not a particular system is running the update 2? That's all I need.

I suspect the difficulty in getting a very simple answer on Itanium is that one of the major requirements of Update2 was that it be "just like" the original 11.23 on Itanium - as in no real need for ISV recert and the like. Thus uname still simply reporting "11.23" and such.

The key in Rick's list is:

This shows that he is running 11i v2 update 2. For Itanium it is just a patch, since it was already at 11.23.
