Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

We just received our rp4440. I'm trying to install HP-UX 11i ver 1.0 from CD and system is panicking. Have anyone experience this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

Hi,

Do you have a "C7456A DLT8000 tape drive" installed on your system. Firmware on this drive could be an issue,

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000074945034

The itrc doc id is CMTKBCA00001478.

Hope this helps.

No tape drive installed.

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

The CD-ROM/DVD drive failed during the installation. Either that or the mecdia is bad.

Its also possible that there is a SCSI id problem, I would make sure thats okay.

The problem is on P4, path 0/5/2/0

Boot the system off Core OS media and look for a crash dump. Its probably not there, but you should still check. Your local response center can assist you further, but it appears to be a software problem caused by a hardware fault.

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

The problem you are having is related to whatever hardware is installed at path 0/5/2/0.

The install is trying to probe that path and is uncussessful. If that is some external disk, try disconnecting it. If there is nothing attached and it is a SCSI card, put a terminator on it. If it is termintated, try taking the terminator off.

If all else fails, call HP hardware support. Since the box is brand new, you've got support on it.

Hi Anthony,

Have you connected any storage to this. Can you disconnect the Fiber to the storage and try. What type of storage, if any is connected.

Hope this helps.

Which OS CDs? PA-8800 needs June 2004 CDs (or Dec 2003 CDs, double check with support). What device is on 0/5/2/0?

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

I just disconnected the VA7410s to the A6795A controllers and did a hard boot. Still getting same SYSTEM PANIC. Is it advisable to open the box and take out the 2 HBAs?

OS CD is March 2003 with label B3920-14070 (2 of 2). CD 1 of 2 is currently mounted to the DVD ROM drive and I'm not able to verify label#.

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

The March 2003 CDs probably will not work. The PA8800 are too new for those. You should have gotten OS CDs with the machine. If not, call HP and request the June 2004 11i CDs.

If fibre cards are at 0/5/2/0 then you might try removing them. I'd still call HP though. If the install is having trouble with them, they could be DOA and you may have to replace them.

Re: Initial install of HP-UX 11i on rp4440

unplug the fiber cards from the san.

That sometimes will get you by the panic and let you get newer drivers in.
