Shalom,

The OS is not supported any more on any hardware. Its past end of life.

Ramon,

you need at least 11.11 OS to support the capability of npartition.

Re: HP-UX 11.00 is supported on cells sx1000 or sx2000?

well, my trouble is the next:
I need to do ignite to 5470 server and this server works with hp-ux 11.00. Then, that ignite works in a cell sx1000 with 8 cores?

Thanks!!

Hi Ramon:

The "sx" designates an Itanium architecture. For that, you must have 11.23 or 11.31. You are not going to get 11.0 to Ignite. That turkey won't fly!

"The "sx" designates an Itanium architecture"

James, don't mix this up with "rx"
;-)

The sx1, sx2, sx1000 and sx2000 are the chipsets used in the servers.

For example:

HP 9000 rp7440 Server with sx2000 can run 11.11

HP 9000 rp7420 Server with sx1000 can run 11.11

(both can run 11.23 and 11.31 too).

BUT - even the latest 11.00 version cannot servers having this chips installed.

Your answer to

"Then, that ignite works in a cell sx1000 with 8 cores?"

is NO.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11.00 is supported on cells sx1000 or sx2000?

Actually sx simply implies mckinley bus interface, and the PA-8800 and PA-8900 sport the McKinley bus interface. IIRC, just as there are some PA-RISC systems using the zx2 chipset, there are some with the sx1000. I'm not sure about sx2000.

However, 11.00 is definitely not supported on the sx[12]000. I've not tracked UX releases as closely as I used to, but IIRC the sx1000-based PA-RISC systems require 11.23 or later.

So, if the goal is to use an sx1000-based partition as a recovery site for an rpmumble, the best thing to do, apart from perhaps engaging HP consulting :) would be to get that system up to 11.23. As far as dumping an ignite image from an rp5400 onto an sx1000-based system, the I/O is rather different, and might pose some challenges.

Re: HP-UX 11.00 is supported on cells sx1000 or sx2000?

Shalom,

The hardware is very different rp5470 versus sx series. A make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery image may work or may not, but there will be some challenges or extra reboots to handle the hardware differences.

An Ignite Golden image is a little more hardware independent and essentially has a cold OS install behind the scenes and is more likely to work.
