Hello
I was just wondering if their was a white paper somewhere refering 11.o>11i migration. I was only able to find one for itanium, but I need to stick with HP9000
Thanks

Solution
Here is the text of a letter I sent to an internal planner...
Here is a great pdf presentation of 11i...http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/os/11i/hpwoldfullpres.pdf It explains the different versions of 11i: Minimal, OE, Technical, & Mission Critical...
Here are some other docs on HP differences for 11.0 versus 11i. This first one states every release since 2002 of 11i.
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/5187-1361.pdf
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B9091AC
http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/5185-6522/5185-6522_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/5185-6522/00/00/8-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/5185-6522/00/00/8-toc.html&searchterms=is|new|hp-ux|11.11|what&queryid=20031215-114712
Here are some highlights I found as well...
11i uses Operating Environments so software management is easier.
It supports partitioning (npars and vpars).
It has added hardware support (superdomes, rp series)
It has added security features
Supports Veritas Volume Manager - VxVM
Better kernel memory allocation (arena allocator)
It supports more dynamically tunable kernel parameters.

Unix, the other white meat.

Re: UX 11.0 to 11i
Itaniums are HP-9000 servers.
The docs provided above are great.
Note:
HP-UX 11.00 PA-RISC only
HP-UX 11.11 11i v1 PA-RISC only
HP-UX 11.20 11i v1.5 Itanium only
HP-UX 11.22 11i v1.6 Itanium only
HP-UX 11.23 11i v2.0 Itanium only
Itanium different chip technology.
There is supposed to be a long promised integrated release of HP-UX that will run on PA-RISC and Itanium hardware.
If you have 11.00 you are running it on PA-RISC hardware and our only current OS migration path is 11.11 11i v1.0
Note, I have done this migration. I recommend cold install, followed by patches, followed by applications and finally data migration.
update-ux is improved but still troublesome.

Re: UX 11.0 to 11i
Thank you very much.
My current install is 11.0 on a rp7400. We will be getting new hardware in the next year and a half. Then migrating all apps and oracle over to the new system. The current 11.0 box purty much does everything db, application, and licensing.
