ftp and password aging

Hello,

Today i had a problem ftp'in from a RH-Linux 4 box to a HP-UX 11.11 box as a certain user.

I was advised to change the password for user(x) on the HP-UX box and now i can ftp to the hp box as user(x) without any isses ????

Its not as if user(x) had expired on the HP box because I could login as normal???

Whats going on and how do I stop this from happening.

Re: ftp and password aging

If your system is trusted , then you can disable the aging policy for the ftp user.

ex.:

SAM -> Accounts for Users and Groups
-> Users
-> Select the user (for example: ftp)
-> Action
-> Modify Security Policies
-> Password Aging Policies
-> Select 'Disabled'

There you can disable, enable, or change its configuration.

I hope this information helps.

Regards...
Just unplug and plug in again ....

Re: ftp and password aging

I understand what your saying, but the user account in question did not have any password aging in place (he could login to the machine with no login problems).

it was only when the user tried ftp'ing to the box that ftp failed to log him in. Once I changed his password on the box (as a test) he could then login using ssh and ftp to the box as normal????

Very strange.

Any more ideas?

Re: ftp and password aging

That user is included in the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess file ?

Re: ftp and password aging

Are you sure the user was inputting the correct password for ftp before you reset?

Re: ftp and password aging

Yes, the user could login with no problems to the target machine, but when it came to ftp, I had to change his password. Once I did this, he could ftp again.

Very strange.
