rlpdaemon

On a HP-UX server, we have a problem that the remote printing to that system stopped working without any good reason. Since then, no more entries get logged in lpd.log. We see many (>20) rlpdaemon processes running, but none is ever ending. Does anyone have a hint on what is occuring ?

Re: rlpdaemon

Shalom,

bdf /var

It may be full preventing further information being added to your file.

sam can be used to trim log files and clear space.

Re: rlpdaemon

Did you try stopping and then restarting the rlpdaemon?

Re: rlpdaemon

Can you post "ps -ef|grep lp" please?

It may give us an idea if your printer software (jetDirect or what ever other vendor mandated print comms software) is stalled...

Re: rlpdaemon

The problem seemed to have been on the originating unix server which had a print queue of which the DNS name no longer existed. After that was fixed, the other queues worked normally again.
So, multiple rlpdaemon processes indicate a problem in the 'sending' server, not the printing server itself.
I guess this thread can be closed.
