Memory loading rules

Memory must be installed in pairs of equal density (install sequenz: 0A-0B,1A-1B,.)

Memory is available in modules of low-density 512 MB (2×256MB), high-density 1 GB (2x 512MB) or 2 GB (2x 1024MB)

Minimum memory is 512 MB

Maximum memory is 16 GB - using 1 GB modules and 4 memory carrier boards (with HP-UX Extension Pack 9905)

Maximum memory is 32 GB - using 2 GB Modules and 4 memory carrier boards (with HP-UX 11.ACE)

If you plan an upgrade of the memory to greater then 16 GB make sure that you have all requirements done

1. You have to have the Patch PHKL_21165 installed before you upgrade the memory (See also the Service

Note A3639A-13 or A3639B-01)

2. You have to have the minimum HP-UX 11.ACE installed. If not, you can install the required Patches from

the following Media:

HP-UX 11.00 ACE Core OS Install/Upgrade/Recovery Media November 99

Partnummer: B3782-68191 Version November 1999 XSWGR1100,version B.11.00.47.08

Performance tuning guidelines

Each memory carrier has it?s own 1.9 GB/s bus. Configure multiple carriers to maximize bandwidth. It is highly recommended to use at least 1 carrier for every 2 CPU's.

Load memory equally across the available carriers.

If growth is planned for the system, then plan on configuring high-density 1 GB modules to minimize memory slot constraints.

If the system is not intended to grow above 8 GB, configure low-density modules (512 MB) to maximize interleaving. -

Memory configuration tables

Table 1.2 Memory bandwidth

Number of Carriers 1 2 3 4

Peak memory bandwidth 1.9 GB/sec 3.8 GB/sec 5.7 GB/sec 7.6 GB/sec
