Replacing DAT Drive

Hi,

I have been around HP3000's since 1980 and I will be shutting down my last 3000 later this year. However, the DAT tape drive has failed and needs to be replaced. The system is a 937LX and the drive is a 3-1/2 inch DDS3. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to remove the drive. I removed the outer case only to find an inner case which appears to be permanently sealed. The drive appears to be screwed into rails which appear to be screwed into the rack and I can't reach the screws because of the inner side panels. I know there must be a way. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

Re: Replacing DAT Drive

Try this:

remove the front bezel. there are 2 screws at the bottom. now you can see 2 screws securing the peripherals chassis. remove them. lift the small chassis (with tape drive inside) up a little bit and pull it out. remove the cables and the tape drive. Does this work?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Replacing DAT Drive

Yes, that worked. Thanks. I had tried that before but the chassis was hung up on something and since I was not sure it was supposed to come out that way I was unwilling to use enough force to free it. We I pulled hard enough it came loose. Thank you so much for the help!

Have a nice Tuesday!
