Hi there,
I tried to configure all-flash 3PAR 8450 (H6Z18B) storage base with all enclosures (9) filled with 24x15.36Tb SDD, but OCA wouldn't let me do it saying "Total storage capacity cannot exceed 1675.5 TiB per node pair". My question is what exactly constrains the storage from handling this amount of raw capacity?

Re: 3PAR 8450 (H6Z18B) storage capacity constraints
Hi Arsen,
Is your 3PAR 8450 with 2 nodes or 4 nodes?

Re: 3PAR 8450 (H6Z18B) storage capacity constraints
Hi Arsen,
3PAR 8450 supports maximum Raw Capacity 3351 TB, max Drive Capacity (SSD) 15.36TB and max Number of Add on drive enclosures 9. (Each drive enclosure has 24 slots).
However, it is conditional.
The maximum Raw Capacity 3351 TB is supported by 2 node pairs (4 nodes) only.
There is a limit for max Raw Capacity of 1675.5 TB (3351 ├╖ 2) per node pair.
It does not support тАШeach to the maximumтАЩ combination (15.36 * 24 * 9) for a single node pair (2 nodes).

Srini

Re: 3PAR 8450 (H6Z18B) storage capacity constraints
Hi Srini,
yes, I understand that only 4-node systems can support the max raw capacity of 3351 TB. I guess my confusion was caused by the fact that there are similar all-flash 2-controller storage solutions on the market, which supports twice as much of raw capacity (3351). Why HPE 2-node storages can't support that much of raw capacity?

SolutionHi Arsen,
Controller-based storages support their maximum raw capacity only with 2 controllers.
As 3PAR is node-based storage, capacity scales up with additional nodes. And fullest capacity is possible only with the maximum number of nodes.
However, 3PAR 9450 supports 3000 TB per node pair, and 3PAR 20450/20850 supports 2000 TB per node pair.
Regards,
Srini
