Does compaction ratio mean compression in 3PAR?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to 3par. In the IMC, what does the compaction ratio mean? And how is it caculated to 3.627:1.  I suspect it's compression. But seems like there isn't any compression option I can enable or disable.  Thanks for the guiding.

Hi dennischen,

It's not compression. It's your overall savings from thin provisioning. See page 22 of this doc:

Oh, make sense. Thanks for the help.

And still another question, can I enable compression in 3par 3.2.1 & 3.2.2? I haven't found any compression configuration.

Re: Does compaction ratio mean compression in 3PAR?

Hi,

compression is only for SSD and comes with the new 3.3.1 Firmware.

And Deduplication that is already possible needs SSD Disk too.

So - No, sorry you have FC Disks only
