HPE 3Par snapshots and MS SQL Server
Hi,
We have an HPE 3Par array 8000 series. We have SQL Server node cluster running in a Hyper-V environment. The SQL Cluster accesses shared drives presented from the 3Par array. We would like to use the Hpe 3Par virtual copy snapshot functionality to create snapshots of the 3Par volumes for backup purposes. Is there a way to do this with SSMC, and some scripting, is there a howto guide available?
Kind regards
Andrew Rycroft

Re: HPE 3Par snapshots and MS SQL Server
Hello @AWR ,
You can create customized snapshot schedule using SSMC or CLI.
From SSMC:
Go to main menu -> show all -> select policies under block persona
Click on '+Create policy' -> Policy type - Snapshot -> Enter the parameters for the policy
Click on 'Add schedule' to create the snapshot schedule. If required, set retention period and expiration period as well. Click on add to save and create the policy.
Go to SSMC main menu and select 'Virtual Volumes' -> Select the volume for which you want to apply snapshot (Virtual Copy) policy.
Go to actions menu -> select 'create snapshot' -> select the radio button 'Assign policy' -> select the policy you have already created.
From CLI:
You can create the snapshot schedule with the command - createsv [options] <SV_name> <copy_of_VV | VV_set | RC_group>
There are lot of options, specifiers available to meet your specific requirement. I advise you to refer the cli guide for more details - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04204279

Re: HPE 3Par snapshots and MS SQL Server
You could try to write all sorts of customized scripts, but why reinvent the wheel?
You wrote you have an HPE 3PAR 8000. You may already be licensed for HPE RMC (HPE Recovery Manager Central).
One of its many capabilities is RMC-S (HPE Recovery Manager Central for Microsoft SQL). There is a good overview showing what RMC-S can do on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxdO74hJ7dA

The link for the 3PAr Virtual Copy guide - https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/4aa6-4486enw?jumpid=in_lit-psnow-red does not work!

Hello @JNoack,
Some documents are now available online in HPE support portal, but not as downloadable pdf. Please check if this link is helpful for you:

I found the pdf is available is a 3rd party website - https://manuals.directutor.com/3COM/4AA6-4486ENW/index.html?page=1
