How to shutdow node controller 3PAR 8400

Dear Team,
I want to shut down 1 node to test redundancy in a cluster of 2 management nodes of 3PAR 8400.
I use the following command:
shutdownnode halt 0

As far as I understand this command will shutdown node 0 and stay that way until I do the startnoderescue -node 0 action or pull the node out and put it back in the controller chassis.
However, after about 1 hour of shutdown the node auto startup. Node online status to and joins the cluster. Why does it restart by itself?

Don't know if there is any difference between these 2 commands:
shutdownnode halt 0
vs
shutdownnode reboot 0

What I want is for the node to be shut down, and not restart itself if I haven't activated it.

Please help
Thank you !

Re: How to shutdow node controller 3PAR 8400

Hello @HIENDOAN,

Below is the difference between 'halt' and 'reboot':

rebootspecifies that the node is restarted immediately after shutdown. The node will be back online in a few minutes.
halt - Specifies that the node will stay shutdown.

To answer why the node restarts after 1 hour:
The consideration behind this is, if you are shutting down one of the nodes in the cluster for maintenance or DR test purpose, 1 hour is sufficient time to complete the activity. It is to avoid unexpected scenarios like if someone forgets to restart the node for longer time. If you continue to keep one of the nodes shutdown (in a 2 node system) for longer, you are exposed to the risk of an outage if the other node also fails at the same time. To minimise such risks, the node restarts automatically.

Re: How to shutdow node controller 3PAR 8400

Hi HIENDOAN,

Thank you for coming to HPE Community Forums

shutdownnode halt command will halt the system and remove the node from the cluster.
Node auto startup will not occur till we bring the node back up.

shutdownnode reboot command will reboot the node and auto startup will begin automatically.

To shutdown the 3PAR 8400 system:
>> Perform the health checkup
>> From CLI, you will need to login with a local admin account,
>> Run the command "shutdownnode halt"
>> Type "yes" to continue.

To power on the 3PAR 8400 system:
>> 3PAR will automatically turn its self back on when power is detected so you will just need turn the PCM switches back on.
>> The order is the reverse of power off:
1 Turn on the node PCM switches at the back of the disk shelves
2 Turn on the node PCM switches at the back of the controller nodes

Please revert if you have any further queries on this.

Hope this helps!!
