If we have 2 remote sites having same shared storage, can we mount same shared disk on remote site?
Dear Experts,
If we have 2 remote sites having same shared storage, can we mount disk on remote site?
- Assume oracle database is on the shared disk (for example HP 3PAR)
- Primary oracle database having storage as a common disk (shared storage geographically apart sites) having all database files.
- On failure, Is it possible to mount the same disk on remote site and mount the oracle database there?
There must be no implications as it must be the same disk which got unmounted from primary site.
Thanks & Regards,

Re: If we have 2 remote sites having same shared storage, can we mount same shared disk on remote si
Hi
you have not put enough details but wat you are talking about is called Peer Persistence read "HP 3PAR Remote Copy Software User Guide" http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03618143 (page 143)
and look at SPOCK site for details on compatability
Regards
give a Kudo if this helps

Re: If we have 2 remote sites having same shared storage, can we mount same shared disk on remote si
Thank you very much giladzzz
As per quote in the document
A Virtual Remote Copy is a point-in-time image of a virtual volume created using the copy-on-write technique. It is composed of a pointer to the parent virtual volume and a record of all the changes made to the parent since the Virtual Remote Copy was created.
Does such remote copy works well with oracle? As per oracle copying datafiles of runing database requires putting tables in begin backup mode?

Re: If we have 2 remote sites having same shared storage, can we mount same shared disk on remote si
While Peer Persistence works with some operating systems, last time I checked, Oracle is not one of them. As you wrote, there are other considerations when dealing with a database to get a consistent copy. Take a look at HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Oracle (RMO). In your situation, it would require two additional physical servers running the RMO management software, one at each site. RMO handles putting the database into hot backup mode, then making the virtual copies, and finally exiting the hot backup mode. You will also need to check SPOCK, www.hp.com/storage/spock, to check OS, version and file system requirements.
