New disk fails with invblksz

Hi,

We have one hp 3par storage in that staorage one HDD got failed. 

We have replaced the new HDD but the new HDD is not taking.

Before replacing the HDD we have followed the procedure 

servicemag start <PDID>

After replacing the HDD if i tried to resume the servicemag command it's giving error msg. Kindly help me......

Hi,

The new HDD is same Part number and Same Firmware version. 

I have replaced totaly 2 HDD it's giving same error MSG when i resume the Servicemag.

If i give showpd -c the new HDD is showing failed state.

I don't even know what disk and 3PAR model we talk about ...

However, sometimes you get a different disk model with the same partno. (this is OK), but the disk model may require a specific array firmware version or patch that you don't have installed. The OS must be aware of the disk model, otherwise it won't work. I think it happened befire that someone got a disk with wrong format (512 instead of 520), so this cannot work too.

Better check with HPE support.

Yes, systems since V class have 520 byte blocks.  I forget what T class had.

 That's useless, you need "showpd -s".

Storage Model HP 3PAR F400

Os Version 3.1.3 M2

If i give showpd -s the new disk is showing failed state and PDID number is also not generating.

I have checked with HP team they are telling new HDD Firmware version is high which is not support for this storage.

They have suggested to get lower firmware version VCX3 HDD.

Is there any way to downgrade the firmware version.

I don't know what disk you have ...

However, disks with same specs sometimes get the same spare part no., even if they are different disk models.

Different disk models have different firmware.

If a disk is know to the 3PAR OS, it has the firmware stored and will up- or downgrade the disk to macth the OS version.

If the OS is not aware of a disk model, it won't work at all.

In this case you either need a patch for your OS that deliveres the new firmware or you need to upgrade the entire 3PAR OS, let's say to 3.2.2 MU_x or whatever the latest currently is.

I doubt F class is supported past 3.1.3 and it needs a blocksize of 512.

To see if your PD model is supported, you can grep the output of showfirmwaredb.

We still don't know what disk model we talk about.

AFAIR the latest version for F-class is 3.1.3 MU3.
