To expand or replace more space drives on HP 3PAR 7200 storage
Dear IT specialists,
What possibilities to expand total storage space on HPE 3PAR StoreServ?
Can I replace more space drives instead of old drives if all slots of storage became fully?
Please share your experience.

Re: To expand or replace more space drives on HP 3PAR 7200 storage
Hi Puujee,
You can add more disks to the existing capacity.
If you are concerned about the number of disks, add more disks, move the data to the CPG to which new disks belong. And then remove the lower capacity disks.

Re: To expand or replace more space drives on HP 3PAR 7200 storage
Add a Disk Shelf, they are very cheap.
For 7200 you can also add ReNew Shelf.
Keep in mind, that 7200 have Disk Drive License if you are below 48 Drives.
Replace Drive is possible but complicated and Time intensive.
If you are no 3PAR Expert, I don't think it is possible for You to do.
You have to replace min. 8 Drives to start and need as much free Space as 8 Drives now hold.

Re: To expand or replace more space drives on HP 3PAR 7200 storage
My suggestion would be
>> first figure out how much actual data you have in 3PAR.
>> then if you have backup option already configured then finish your backup
>> stop any new IO to the array may be in weekend
>> unexport all VLUNs from all hosts
>> Then delete all VVs from 3PAR
>> replace all old drives with new drive
>> re-create CPGs, VVs as applicable and present new VLUNs to applicable hosts
>> restore data from backup
That should be more easy for you and fast otherwise if you go for other options then it will be time consuming and require more in-depth knowledge about 3PAR
Hope this helps!
Regards
Subhajit
