Unable to create Virtual Copy snapshot on V800
Hi Peers,
I currently find myself in a position where I am unable to take any further virtual copy snapshots on a V800 array, see below.
cli% creategroupsv -ro -exp 3d RC_A1_ARCHIVE:RC_AIORA01_ARC_10261037
System cannot create 1 volume because a maximum of 12288 volumes are permitted and 12288 exist already (including internal read only snapshot volumes).
Yet I am nowhere near this limit of volumes as shown by showvv, which is a total of 1494.
Has anyone come across this issue before ?
Thanks in advance,
Berd

Re: Unable to create Virtual Copy snapshot on V800
Run "setclienv showsysobjs 1" to enable the hidden RO snapshot volumes. Then run your "showvv" again. Run "setclienv showsysobjs 0" to hide them back away.
If that doesn't help, it's time to contact hPE Support.

Re: Unable to create Virtual Copy snapshot on V800
Hi Sheldon,
thanks for that response. I got there eventually as well.
What I have found is that there are alot of .sr* virtual copies of my source volumes still in place., long after the virtual copy has expired and been deleted. It would appear that whatever tidyup process that should be deleting and removing these isn't working. Ever seen this before ?
i have placed a call with HPE , and I'm currently awaiting a response, but as we have another call open with them they are keen for us to action those requirements before looking at these, even thought the two issues are unrelated.
Thanks,
Berd

Re: Unable to create Virtual Copy snapshot on V800
I have not seen that. I still make any virtual copies a little more "old school"; set up a schedule to create expiring RO snapshots and just make expiring RW child snapshots as needed.

Re: Unable to create Virtual Copy snapshot on V800
Hi Dennis,
The volume names all start .ssr*
3091 .ssr_1971RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA snp vcopy RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA 4017 RO normal -- -- -- 1280000
3092 .ssr_1971RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS snp vcopy RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS 4018 RO normal -- -- -- 256000
3097 .ssr_1972RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA snp vcopy RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA 4017 RO normal -- -- -- 1280000
3098 .ssr_1972RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS snp vcopy RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS 4018 RO normal -- -- -- 256000
3103 .ssr_1973RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA snp vcopy RC_EC22VSIJDB01_DATA 4017 RO normal -- -- -- 1280000
Our OS version is 3.1.2 MU3. HPE support have been back in touch and advised that this is a 'feature' of 3.1.2 whereby it does not always delete the Remote Copy working snapshots that the OS creates. We have tried to manually delete these 'working' snapshots but the below error is displayed.
cli% removevv -snaponly .ssr_732RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS
Removing vv .ssr_732RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS
select q=quit y=yes n=no: y
VV .ssr_732RC_EC22VSIJDB01_LOGS is being removed by another request
Currently awaiting a further update from HPE support.
