Unbalanced disks
Hi everyone
I recently moved a PD from Cage:3 to Cage:1 on a 3par 7200. I moved the PD for balancing disks on pair.
Now when I run a health check on the PD it throws the following message:
checkhealth -detail pd
Checking pd
Component ----Summary Description----- Qty
PD Unbalanced PD types in Cages 1
------------------------------------------
1 total 1
Component -Identifier- ------------------------Detailed Description-------------------------
PD Cage:1 PDs FC/10K/600GB unbalanced. Primary path: 10 on Node:0, 12 on Node:1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 total
By checking the Cage:1 I get the following output, I can see a balance problem on disks ID: 93 and ID: 94
showpd -p -cg 1

Re: Unbalanced disks
Hi Toscano,
In 3PAR, along with number of PDs in each cage, disk balancing depends on several parameters like type of CPGs, levels of availability (mag, cage, port) and set size.
To advise on how to rebalance PDs, more information required like detailed steps about how you moved the PD?, CPGs in use, availability level, set size, disk utilization level, number of cages, number of each type of PDs etc.
In this scenario, it requires log analysis and planning to do rebalancing. So, I advise you to open a support case with HPE and involve an expert.
