change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

Hey, boys and girls,

I have the following issue: production 3Par 7200c StoreSrv that is already in production, no SP or VSP connected to it. I have no idea what the ip address configured to this storage is.

I have another test 3Par 7200c StoreSrv connected to a physical SP.

Is it possible to somehow connect the physical SP from the test 3Par to the production 3Par?

I am aware that one StoreSrv could be connected to one SP.

Cheers

Hi Blago,

Yes. You can connect the physical SP from the test 3PAR to production 3PAR.

You need to freshly configure that with the production 3PAR.

You can get the IP of Production 3PAR with the cli command 'shownet'.

You don't know the IP of the production SP?

Connect a monitor or connect via the service LAN, log on and you will see it.

However, if you want to swap the SP you need to re-image the SP, at least for version 4.4.

Hope this helps!

10x for the reply and info, Srinivas!

Well that is the thing we have no idea what the IP of the production 3PAR StoreSRV is.

Tried to connect with the console cable but no luck so far since there is no official documentation for it. It seems the serial connection to the StoreSRV is just for HP engineers.

Re: change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

Hello, Torsten,

I do know the IP of the SP( HP DL120 ) that is connected to the test 3PAR 7200c StoreSRV.

I have connection to it and removed the test StoreSRV and tried to add the production 3PAR 7200C StoreSRV, both form console and web, without success. It seems that the SP keeps the Serial number of the test StoreSRV in both web and cli and I am unable to add new SN until re-image.

I will follow your advise and re-image the SP, because a swap is probably the only way to find the production storage IP. The version I have on the SP is 4.4.0.GA-88. As per documentation when I put re-imaged SP in the same broadcast domain as the production 3PAR 7200c StoreSRV. I would be able to enter new SN then and hopefully the production StoreSRV. I hope I will be able to set a network address to the production StoreSRV.

Currently I am scanning the 192.168.0.0/16, 172.16.0.0/12 and after that 10.0.0.0/8 . I will do the re-image of the SP as a last resort option.

I wonder if I am going to loose any data or configurations once I connect the SP to the production StoreSRV?

Also, I wonder if I am going to loose, if any, licenses on the SP if I re-image it?

Once again thanks for the info!

Re: change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

Please wait ...

So you have a DL120 and you don't know the IP of it.

At the back you have 2 ethernet ports - left labeled mgmt, right labeled service.

The service port has the same funcionality as management, but a fixed IP address.

The SP service port has 10.255.155.54, mask 255.255.255.248.

Set your PC to 10.255.155.49, mask 255.255.255.248, connect it directly and point a putty session to 10.255.155.54.

Log on using your known cretentials.

Now you will see the IP address of the public port.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

Hi, Torsten,

if I am not confused SP stands for Service Processor, which is a server, connected to a 3PAR Storage.

I have access to the IP of the SP and it's web interface and cli over ssh.

The IP address I do not know is for my production 3PAR Storage. As per documentation each and every 3PAR storage have different default IP address that is generated by it's SN. Once a SP is connected to the 3PAR Storage, it checks the SN and then connects the IP of that server providing further configuration options for changing the 3PAR storage IP address.

Please, correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Cheers

Re: change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

So you can logon to this SP?
The 3PAR is connected to this SP?

So it will show you the IP of the 3PAR there.

EDIT:

I read everything again and understand now there is no SP on this 3PAR at all.

So you need a serial connection to the 3PAR, log on and get the details.

There is no default IP, at least after initialization of the hardware.

You can also run a CLI session from there to the 3PAR and run shownet.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: change Service Processor from one 3Par 7200c to another 3Par 7200c

Hye, Torsten,

oh I got it, once intiliazide(probably from a serial connection) the production StorSRV has no IP and my only option is to connect via serial.

I will leave the IP scan finish any way since there is some chance my former colleagues to have configured one.

Cheers
