Hi All,
Should I be able to see the WWN of the 7400 on the Brocade as a device, which has been powered on but not configured if, I have patched he Fibre cable into two of the nodes?
I can see the Brocade port connected and the port is now listed as an L_Port but unable to see the WWN of the connected node.
Any ideas?

Re: unable to see 7400 WWN as a device on Brocade 8GB/24C switch
You need to switch the ports from disk to host mode first (from initiator to target).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: unable to see 7400 WWN as a device on Brocade 8GB/24C switch
It is a 3Par 7400
What do you mean by "You need to switch the ports from disk to host mode first (from initiator to target)"
Please note that the 3Par 7400 hasn't be configured at all, just powered on, with the Fibre cables plugged in.
The Brocade has been configured, but not the external ports.
cheers

Re: unable to see 7400 WWN as a device on Brocade 8GB/24C switch
Use the CLI and run
cli% showport
the ports connected to the switch must be "target" but most likely they are still "initiator".
cli% showport
N:S:P Mode State ----Node_WWN---- -Port_WWN/HW_Addr- Type
0:0:1 initiator ready 2FF70002AC00000A 20010002AC00000A disk
0:0:2 initiator ready 2FF70002AC00000A 20020002AC00000A disk
0:0:3 initiator ready 2FF70002AC00000A 20030002AC00000A disk
0:0:4 initiator loss_sync 2FF70002AC00000A 20040002AC00000A free
0:2:1 initiator ready 2FF70002AC00000A 20210002AC00000A host
0:2:2 target ready 2FF70002AC00000A 20220002AC00000A host
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Do I need to configure the SAN FC ports before the WWN will be visable on the FC Switch as a device?

SolutionHi,
Off course you need SAN zoning on the switches but this is not different as any other SAN devices...
What you need to do is in the IMC management console go to the ports of the 7400 and change the ports which are connected to the SAN switch (for instance 1:2:1, depending on your cabling), select "Configure" and set the Connection mode to "Host".
Kr,
Bart

You're welcome!
You will be making a lot of us jealous knowing that you can start directly with a nice product as the 7400...
