I have many problem with a new L3000 I have just installed. It had PCI slots 1 & 2 used by core I/O and console card. So, when I plugged my FC card, I put it in 3rd slot. Then problems began : FC card reinitialization, Disks lost... I changed card, and even FC10 array. Nothing to do.
On the side of the server is a sticker naming ports. On my server (L3000), I see "PCI slot 3". On another server (L2000), at the same place, I see "PCI slot 3 not available". Why is this unavailable ? Is it general ? Is it also unavailable on my L3000, even if not specified ?
For the moment, I have done vgexport, changed slot and vgimport. It seems to work. But I can't be sure, as long as problems usually come after a while.
Thanks for any answer,
Fred

Re: 3rd PCI slot in L3000
You doc is really very very interresting. I'm now sure slot3 is innocent. Problem is that my FC card is also good, my FC10 too, and my disks too... All is pointing at my server itself. And that's a little bit less funny.
It could be a configuration problem.
Here is what I have exactly :
A L2000 with a FC card and a FC10 array.
A new L3000 with same FC10 array, but different FC card.
After a few hours, I first get thoses messages by resmon (in this order. I give only links to what resmon says) :
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/dm_ses_enclosure.htm#112
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/dm_TL_adapter.htm#33
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/disk_em.htm#3
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/hardware/ems/disk_em.htm#18
Specified disk in message is not always the same.
I changed array and card, with no success. I believed a time the problem came from this slot 3, but now it's on slot 8 (turbo) and I have the same problem.
So it's probably server problem. Calling HP support...
Thanks Robert-Jan for your time.
I don't know how to get P/N. ioscan is telling "HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter" (this is old card from L2000 that I have now in new server).
Regards,
Fred

check the known problems.
Could it be a firmware problem ?

Re: 3rd PCI slot in L3000
HP tech should now come to determine the problem. IMHO, this will probably be firmware or server itself.
