A400 9000 A5570-62019

All,

Im looking for a external storage solution for this box. It has two internal bays filled with 72g drives. I have a tape drive and DVD off the ultra 2 scsi.

I talked to my usual hardware vendor, and they cant help, say its too old. The servers about three years old!

Any help would be welcome.

Cheapest is the A3312A HA array with your choice of 8 x 9GB, 18GB, 36GB, or 4 x 180GB disk drives.. you'll need to get an A4800A FWD card for the A400 to use that array... the A3312A's are all over ebay, we have some for .01 cents

or you can use the Sure Store SC10 arrays that hold 10 x 18GB, 36GB, 73GB, and or 147GB, these ones are 10k rpm as opposed to the A3312A HA drives which are 7200 RPM. Your A400 actually has a LVD connection so you wouldn't need an add-on card to attach that array. The arrays are about 400 bucks and the drives are ebay also. A5596A & A5627A

I didnt see that you were using your Ultra-2 Port so if you did the SC10 array you would need to get either a A5149A or A5150A Ultra-2 card, either will run you about 300 bucks

You might consider using up one of your expansion slots and putting in a 5158A fiber channel controller. With that you can start building a SAN, or just purchase any of several fiber-attached drive bays. Elderly SAN stuff starts at $1000 on Ebay. There's lots of options when you expand beyond the internal storage. I've always been impressed with the SC10--the fiber version of the FC10.

You didn't mention your budget, but the A400 is fairly flexible if you can drop some money on it.

Thanks all,

I will look based on the suggestions.

Any vendors anyone would recomend? I buy most of my stuff through Insight, their HP person was the one to give the "too old" bit. I dont mind buying through eBay, but would rather a known vendor.
