A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Hi everyone, my problem has surfaced again!

I have an A5191B that works with 360 & 440MHz procs. When I use the 550Mhz procs it doesn't even start power on self tests and just hangs. No VFP test progress.

My proc switch settings are set to: off off on off on and my PDC firmware is the newest available.

Any ideas why these are not working. I Have many 550's and all do the same thing so I don't think it is the procs but maybe it is??

Also, when I try the processors in an A6144B no problems and they come up as 550MHz.

Any ideas??

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Hi,

A5191B is rp5450 / L2000 only support 360 MHz & 440 MHz processor.

A6144B is rp5470 / L3000 can support 550 MHz, 650 MHz, 750 MHz processor.

You can check the processor part number for each machine part number at this url below :

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

And based from your switch setting, the system board only support for 360 MHz & 440 MHz; since the L3000 system board (on S2) with 8 switch for speed setting.

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,
AW

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Hi,

May I know your system board part number ?

Looks like only A5191-60016 can run with 550 MHz (but run at 540 MHz at L2000/rp5450).

Hope this information can help you.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Hi,

your A5191B is a rp5450 AKA L2000.
Make sure the PDC is good enough to support the CPUs.

Current version 44.28:

offline: PF_CRHW4428
online 11.11: PHSS_31801
online 11.00: PHSS_31800

System board rev A only supports 360/440 MHz.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Hi Dane,

You need to run up cstm & pull up the "system" info to see the main board info.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

hi,

The a rev board has A5191-60001
the B rev board has A5191-60016
part numbers

So you have a B rev board.

you can check this in stm under system info

#echo "selclass qualifier system;info;wait;infolg" ¦ cstm

this should return L2000B or run Mapper in ODE this will list the corect model of your server.

One more thing to check is the revisions of the Processor support modules.
There has been different revisions released? Do you others of these you could try?

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

run cstm and look for an entry like this:

FRUID Field ascii hex
----------- ----- ---
FRU Name.............: SYS_BD
Part Number..........: A5191-60016

Here it is a rev B.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Are there any early revision B boards that would have to be upgraded to see the 550's?

We've heard that some A5191B's from HP were not working with 550's and had to be upgraded again to accept them.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

I'm glad to see that it's not just you, me, Steve and Brad having problems figuring this one out!

I've never heard of a rev B board not accepting the 550s, or needing to be "upgraded again". I know you tried these procs in an rp5470, but have you tried them in another L2000? I think you may need to replace the system board.

Good Luck - Tim
