Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

I have tried the 550's in two other L2000 systems. All are doing the same thing so it is pointing me towards the procs. The only wierd thing is that the 550's work perfectly in A6144B's and A6797B's. I am completely stumped.

How many power supplies in your A5191B? How many 550MHz processors are you adding?
What is the processor support module that you are using?

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Ted has the same thought as I had brewing:

1. What PSM are you using?

2. Have you used other PSMs, same part number?

3. In single CPU, what Terminator are you using?

4. Have you tried another Terminator, same part number?

5. In two CPU, are you using slots 0/3?

6. Are you getting the same symptom in single CPU as in multi CPU?

I think I went over all that last week with Steve, but I'll ask you since you are the one turning the screwdriver.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Ok here is what I did now.
I got the A6146A's from the guy that had them working in the A5191B he sold us. We put them in our A5191B that we have been having problems with and they worked. So I took down all the info for the processors.

I then took the A6146A's that we couldn't get working in the A5191B and put them in an A6144B to get the processor info. My results are below.

The only difference that I see in the procs is the HVERSION. Lemme know if anyone can make anything of this? Any input would be much appreciated.

It looks to me like HP has some A6146A's floating around that work in L2000's and some that don't work in L2000's.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Here are answers to your questions:

1. A5796A
2. YES
3. Both A5570-62014 & A5559-62001(both do the same)
4. YES
5. YES
6. NO, with a single CPU and term. it starts self tests & fails at I/O test 8119.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Are you sure that you have the upgraded system board in your L2000? HP used to sell the A6479A with option 002, which gave you a new system board and a 550MHz processor (that ran at 540MHz).

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

You make a good point Ted but the only thing is that these other A6146A's(550MHz) work fine and come up as 540's which is what they should do. Check out my attachment above.

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Here's another thing to think about.

I tried the system with 3 procs. I put the two that worked in slots 0 & 3 and the one that didn't work in slot 1 and when it booted up at the main menu it says procs are not installed in the correct order. Must be 0,3,1,2 which is what I did. Then I do an in pr and says only two procs running(0 & 3). What do I make of that??

Re: A5191B not working with 550MHz procs

Do you have the CPU Support Module 0 installed first (for CPU 0 and 3), before CPU Support Module 1 (for CPU 1 and2)? It is the one on the same side of the board as CPU 0/1 on the L2000? You need the second CPU support Module for the third or fourth CPU. Did you change the memory configuration? Check the pins and sockets for problems. It says you can mix CPUs, but I see that the CPU clock frequency must be set to teh speed of the slower CPUs. This implies to me that you must also do something to set the clock frequency. Did you do that?
